Airlines

Reunion Island/Roland Garros Airport: A plane on arrival
You normally have to book a flight in order to get to Reunion Island

Some of our programs start/end from/to Roland-Garros-Airport (RUN), close to Saint Denis, in the north of the island. To get there, there are several options.

You can go via Paris, Mauritius, Johannesburg or Bangkok.

From United States, best thing is to pass by Johannesburg or Paris. Flights between the islands are generally operated by Air Austral, you can find more diversification of offers for flights to/from Mauritius.

There are large price differences, mainly between high and low season (approximately from January to July) and depending on the time of booking (preferably as early as possible).

Most airlines fly to la Reunion from Paris, Orly-Airport (ORY), Air Austral and Air France also from Charles-de-Gaulle-Airport (CDG) and from Marseille (MRS).

For the very moment (May 2021) flight offer is strongly reduced because of COVID-19 epidemy.

Via Paris :

  • Air France : To prefer if you have a correspondence flight with the same company
  • Air Austral: (also from Marseille, Johannesburg and Bangkok): Local airline, very good service.
  • French Bee: lowcost company
  • Corsair: lowcost company
  • Air Caraibe: lowcost company

Via Mauritius :

Public Transport:

The bus system along the coast ("Car Jaune") is well developed: frequent service, comfortable, air-conditioned buses: Timetable

The local urban buses are integrated in this website, so you can plan your whole day trip with it. But, keep in mind that buses go nearly everywhere, where there are roads and habitations, but sometimes with quite a poor frequency. Cilaos (from Saint Louis) and Salazie (from Saint André) are positive exceptions. Mafate is only accessible on foot or by helicopter.

Transport on the island

Reunion Island/Transports: bicycles and electric bicycles
Bicycles are a good way to explore Reunion Island

Bicycle:

Exempted some coastal areas, cycling is very exhausting because of the steepness of most roads. But thanks to the availability of electric bikes nowadays nearly everybody can use a bike for transport or sports.

But be careful: some roads are dangerous because of heavy traffic. You can find more and more bicycle paths and numerous single trails for mountain bikes. Downhill biking is one of the most important sports here, we can book it for you.

Electric bike rental in Cilaos: Tofbike, in Saint Leu: Loisibike.

Réunion Island/Transport: a lady trying to get a taxi
Taxis are not so common on Reunion Island

Taxi:

Taxis are not a very current means of transport on Reunion Island, so they are rare and expensive.

You can find the companies on the Yellow Pages.

Price examples, approximate: Airport - Saint Denis: 25 €, Airport - West Coast:    70 €.

The UBER service, in 2021, does not exist on Reunion Island, but there are similar transport services, for example Cocoappli

On demand, we can find you a private transport, called "VTC", which is at about the same price level as taxis.

Rental Cars:

Depending on the place where you will stay, the most comfortable way of moving on Reunion Island will be a rented car.

There are many car rents on our island, international and local ones. Prices can vary a lot, depending on the company, the kind of car, the season and the time and way of your booking. There are also many possibilities for renting a car online. One example.

It can be an advantage to book your car directly from the airport, even if it is a bit more expensive.

Accomodation

Most of the accommodations available on the island you can find here.

Other choices are booking.com, airbnb.com or couchsurfing.com.

We can help you with finding a suitable accommodation and book it for you. If you want to do day trips with us, best would be to choose an accommodation in the south of the island.

Hotels:

There is a wide range of choice of hotels, from luxurious *****-Hotels to cheap guesthouses, passing by unusual accommodations like safari style lodges or tree houses. Most of them you can find at the West coast and in the bigger cities. Prices are on an European level. Two recommended examples: Palm Hotel in the south or Lodge Roche Tamarin in the north-west.

Rural Gites:

If you want to be close to the people, talk to them and eat local food prepared from their own harvest, best try this kind of typical accommodation: for example Bardzour in the West, or Pinpin d'Amour in the Wild South.

Campsites:

There are many of them, in most areas, some with tents and equipment to rent. A very nice one in the South.

Mountain huts:

There is a big range of them along the hiking trails, from nearly luxurious to very basic. Before booking one here, best talk to us. We can also book for you some which you cannot find on the list.
